How the capitals quiz works
This is the Capitals Blind Challenge: no highlighted country, no map hint. You see a capital, such as Ouagadougou, and choose the country from four options. After you answer, the globe turns to show where it is, so every question teaches you a location as well as a name. The challenge covers all 195 capitals.
On Easy you get 30 seconds and the wrong options are random. On Hard you get 20 seconds, and the wrong options are nearby countries whose capitals look or sound similar. Both difficulties have their own leaderboard.
The Country + Capital challenge works the other way round: the globe highlights a country, you name it, and then you name its capital.
Capitals people get wrong
Most mistakes come from countries whose capital is not their biggest or best-known city:
- Australia: Canberra, not Sydney
- Canada: Ottawa, not Toronto
- Turkey: Ankara, not Istanbul
- Brazil: Brasília, not Rio de Janeiro
- Nigeria: Abuja, not Lagos
- Switzerland: Bern, not Zurich
- Pakistan: Islamabad, not Karachi
- Morocco: Rabat, not Casablanca
- New Zealand: Wellington, not Auckland
- Vietnam: Hanoi, not Ho Chi Minh City
A few countries split the role. South Africa has three capitals, Bolivia two (Sucre and La Paz), and the Netherlands' capital is Amsterdam while its government sits in The Hague. GuessGlobe uses one answer per country: Pretoria, Sucre and Amsterdam.

Go one region at a time with the continent quizzes, then come back here for the full mix. Say each capital out loud when you answer: saying it makes it easier to remember than reading it. When you get one wrong, note it down and look for it in the next round.
