How the Oceania quiz works
Oceania has 14 countries, but most of them are small island nations scattered across the Pacific. At globe scale only six have visible land: Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, so an Oceania globe round is a quick six-country drill. Name each country, then its capital.
For the other eight (Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Samoa, Tonga and Tuvalu), use Name the Countries, which marks them as dots on the globe, or the Flag Quiz.
Tips for learning Oceania
Think in three island groups. Melanesia, north-east of Australia, includes Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Fiji. Micronesia, further north, includes Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, Nauru and Kiribati. Polynesia, to the east, includes Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu and New Zealand.
Capital traps: Australia's capital is Canberra, not Sydney. New Zealand's is Wellington, not Auckland. Palau moved its capital from Koror to Ngerulmud in 2006. Nauru has no official capital; government offices are in the Yaren district.

How many countries are in Oceania?
14 sovereign countries. Territories such as New Caledonia, French Polynesia and Guam belong to other countries and are not counted.
What is the smallest country in Oceania?
Nauru, at about 21 km², is the smallest country in Oceania and the third smallest in the world. Tuvalu is next.

Both. Australia is a country, and together with New Guinea and nearby islands it sits on the Australian continent, which is part of the wider region of Oceania.
