How the Europe quiz works
Each round picks ten European countries. The globe zooms to each one; choose its name from four options, then its capital. Faster answers score more, and streaks of three or more earn bonus points.
Six European microstates are too small to see at globe scale: Andorra, Liechtenstein, Malta, Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City. The globe rounds use the other 38. All 44 are in Name the Countries and the Flag Quiz.
Tips for learning Europe's map
Use the Baltic order. Going south to north: Lithuania (Vilnius), Latvia (Riga), Estonia (Tallinn).
Split the Balkans into a coast and an inland. Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Albania line the Adriatic. Serbia and North Macedonia are inland, with Bulgaria and Romania to the east.
Don't mix up Slovakia and Slovenia. Slovakia (capital Bratislava) borders Czechia, Poland, Ukraine, Hungary and Austria. Slovenia (capital Ljubljana) sits between Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia.
Capitals that aren't the obvious city: Switzerland's is Bern, not Zurich or Geneva. The Netherlands' capital is Amsterdam, although the government sits in The Hague. Montenegro's is Podgorica.

Frequently asked questions
How many countries are in Europe?
GuessGlobe counts 44 European countries, including Russia. Kosovo is not included because it is not a UN member, and Turkey and Cyprus are counted in Asia.
What is the smallest country in Europe?
Vatican City, at 0.44 km², is the smallest country in Europe and the world. Monaco is second.
Is the capital of Ukraine Kyiv or Kiev?
Kyiv is the transliteration from Ukrainian and is now standard in English. Kiev is the older form, based on Russian.
